To avoid using a dryer I am drying my DD's pyjamas for tonight in front of the computer as there is loads of heat coming from it! lol

hee hee that's a nice way of thinking outside the square! My mum always used to put a clothes rack in front of the oven after she'd finished using it (she'd leave the door open). So much heat that just gets wasted, you're paying for it after all.
  • According to my calcs you have £99.41 per week to spend on anything else including food, going out etc. To stop overspending immediately I suggest you write this amount in a little book each week and keep track of what you spend by subtraction. If you have any over, carry it forward to the next week. Try and build a little for emergencies, etc.

You are not in a position to save for children. If you do it will have to come out of the above amount.

Your life and other insurances seem very high; are these really needed? Can you get it cheaper?. I suggest you stop paying your gas bill until you get a bill showing the latest, correct, meter readings.

The figures are as follows, good luck:

    income weekly monthly
    self
    partner 1924.00
    cb 69.80
    ctc 41.61

    total 0.00 2035.41
    469.71 divided by 4.33

    469.71 total weekly income

    spend weekly monthly
    rent/mortgage 1050.00
    council tax 106.40
    elec 18.00
    gas 75.00
    water 28.69
    secured loans
    TV licence 10.99
    fines
    fuel 50.00
    car tax 18.75
    car ins 28.75
    house ins 23.76
    life 92.37
    uneploy ins 48.95
    house phone 18.00
    int 14.99
    mob 20.00

    total 0.00 1604.65
    370.30 divided by 4.33

    £370.30 total weekly spend

    Start= income - spend = £99.41 per week

Have just spoken to EDF about gas and electric bills. It turns out I am on E7 but my contract says I am not!! So will be going out and buying timer switches for appliances (anyone know wheres best for these??)
Also I am in credit by £48 for electric. They also said based on my next bill in November if I ring with a meter reading they will look at lowering my monthly bill.

Did you ask for a cheque for £48? It will be better in your bank gaining interest or knocked off your debt than in their bank.

No I didn't think to do this stupidly, I will because I pay £18 a month so it is just going to keep building up.

Hi toria  I really don't want you to think I'm being mean, but if you are in debt, that is exactly what you have done - spent more money than you had. You should really stop saving for your kids in the short term to clear your debts, and then you can save twice as much once they are paid off. The same applies for any non essential insurances really - look at what/how long it would take for them to pay out, and how much you'd actually get vs how much you have paid in - you may find you don't think it's worth it.

I know what you mean Mirtos, when I said we don't buy what we can't afford I meant material things, such as the new door and fence.
The money we owe is what e borrowed from my parents for our new house last year, in order to be able to relocate so OH could run parents buisness. That enabled us to move sooner rather than later and reduce our monthly mortgage. It was agreed that it is a long term loan and we are currently under no pressure to pay it back, it is us that wants to pay it back as we don't like to owe anything.
