The only thing that worked for me was the Elvive anti-D (very pricey by my standards).

400ml bottles are currently BOGOF at Boots. I noticed too that they seem to have a new version for 'persistent dandruff' that is perhaps more effective.

I have been suffering with a dry itchy scalp for the past few months & wasn't that impressed with T gel or head & shoulders. I bought some of the new Elvive stuff (BOGOF in Morrisons) & it seems to have done the trick. It was about £3.50/4.00 for the big bottle, but on BOGOF it's not a bad price.

(My other theory is that the dryness was something to do with the summer heat etc & now the weather has changed it has disappeared, which coincided with me trying the new shampoo )
  • You might find you have Seborrheic Dermatitis and a friend of mine suffered for years with this until she took Diflucan (a pill from chemist no prescription necessary) once a week for a month and used Nizoral shampoo as directed. Chemist suggested it and it really worked well I think you have to be sure you have no kidney/liver problems.
  • Just read what you said about athelete's foot, Diflucan is an anti-fungal.

I suffer from dandruff quite badly and mine is definitely made alot worse by stress. The only thing that has worked for me, is MOP glisten shampoo and conditioner, it seems very expensive at first but actually due to how little you have to use it works out very cheap. I tried everything else and was about to go to the doctor so brought it as a last resort and now i wouldn't be without it.

Nizoral works well. I used to buy it, but I do believe you can get it on prescription.
  • Cider vinegar works for some people - rub it into the scalp after shampooing and then rinse really well with running water.

  • Get it treated with a small 60mlbottle of Nizoral. It disappears amazingly quickly and will never return. Ask for it at a chemist.

If you live in Wales where prescriptions are free, ask your GP for a prescription. beware if you are a vegetarian; it contains animal collagen.

I agree with snowyowl. It may not be dandruff at all, worth seeing your GP.

Polytar (already mentioned) is a good shampoo for dandruff as well as other problems. Also, bicarbonate of soda, a teaspoonful mixed with shampoo, is very good. Bicarb is good for lots of skin problems, it's great in the bath.
