Civil Service Pension refund

Can somebody please help make this clearer...
I worked for the DWP for sixteen years and in 2008 took a early severence. I was told my Classic Pension scheme was frozen until I reached Pension age. So far so good.
Six months after this date I was recruited under fair and open competition as a fixed term appointment member of staff for 12 months. I was told then that I would get a refund of my Nuvos contributions that I had made when I left (if I wanted that)
I left three months ago and surprise surprise no refund.Civil Service Pensions are saying its because I was a previous permanent member of staff and as a result was entered into the classic premium scheme from which there are no refunds. However it will go towards my classic pension when I get to the appropriate age?
All my wage slips show contributions to the NUVOS scheme. All this is news to me. Can anyone shed any light if they have got this right?

AIUI, because you took a redundancy package you cannot rejoin the old Classic final salary scheme (unless its very soon after leaving & you repay the redundancy package) and so have to join either Nuvos or the money purchase Partnership scheme.
However if they are going to give you another year of service in Classic instead then I wouldn't complain to much as its a far better deal than a refund of contributions
If you were in Classic then you should have been paying 1.5% contributions not Nuvos' 3.5% - ask for a refund of the overpayment, that should kick them into life :-)0
