Totally confused!!

Hi
My husband had been paying child maintenance for 19yrs through the csa. This all finished 18 months ago and a refund was given after the case was closed for over payment. Today he has received a letter saying - Child maintenance arrears reinstated - they say they had decided not to collect £227.02 until a later time because of circumstances at the time. We have now decided that you do have to pay this. They are asking us to pay by credit or debit card over the phone.
We did not know anything about this and was told the case was closed. They have made numerous spelling mistakes on the letter and have even spelt my husbands name wrong. There was another letter enclosed warning of legal action.
The envelope had the Belfast address printed on it but the letter had Kirkcaldy, Fife on it.
Please could anyone tell us what to do next as we are finding this strange. Thanks for any help.

Phone them and ask them. I think they use a standard template when sending out correspondence from Matt Hillin. What phone number have you got on the letter.

it looks like suspended debt to me - ask for the dates for which the arrears refer to and a complete breakdown of arrears and payments made.
