Today I got paid and it cleared my overdraft leaving me with enough to pay of all my bills and live reasonably until the next pay day - I took the step of removing my overdraft facility and paid off the small remaining debt on my credit card.
Now even though I pay my father £120 (for 3 more years - it's been 4 already!) to pay off an old debt I consider myself debt free (the £120 is towards a loan not in my name despite it being my debt and cannot be paid off quicker) as my credit report will show no overdraft, no loans, no credit cards etc.
My question is, what next? I have become obsessed with moneysaving for 2 years now and won't know what to do!
I don't earn enough to start saving, I've been living very poor for nearly 2 years now and my next plan is to get a better flat to live in as the one I live in now is rubbish! I may do that in February when this lease is up and after Christmas is out of the way.
Even though I now an debtless (for the most part) I don't feel richer or like I'll ever be able to afford anything like a car or my own house on my wage.
How do people get by in this day and age? 15% for a mortgage is what my friends are telling me now, I have no savings so how can a single 28 year old do this? It's a tough time for sure right?
Sorry this turned into a rant!
I am relieved to be out of the mess I was in - just hope it pays off now!

Congrats on clearing your debts.
Why do you think you don't earn enough to start saving? Surely if you have been paying something towards debts (even if it was just interest) then you must be able to afford a little something towards saving.
I would set up a savings account, even if you only transfer £10 a month to start it will be a good habit to get into and will ensure you can still remain obsessed with money saving!A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I could probably put a little aside but anything I was using to pay debts will be going on a nicer flat - I currently get a bargain deal but it's not nice.
Imagine if I put aside £40-£50 a month - it would take 2 years to save just a grand and that won't help me do anything. I guess I'm a little scared as to what the future holds for me.Debt free!0
