Halloween Medusa Costume ideas please ?

Hi all
My friend is really really mad on Halloween and has a party every year. I have worn the same thing for the last 3 years, alternating between a devil and a vampire. She has everthing you would ever need for a party and her house will be decorated to perfection (even adult size dummies that move their eyes and moan ). I really need to make more of an effort. I have looked on ebay and the Medusa costume caught my eye and I have never seen anyone wearing one before. The ebay one is £43 with a distinct lack of snakes ! now then I can't sew so I would have to find the main dress from a charity shop or somewhere like that. Do you have any ideas for the rest of the outfit please ?? If I could do the whole thing for £20 I would be happy. Has anyone seen any suitable snakes :). I am 47 now so past the kids toy shop phase, also that means no outfits above the knees .

  • When i was younger (many years ago) you could buy snakes that had separate body parts which moved like a snake, i think you can still buy these in toy shops, what about buying some of these. I googled medusa costumes and came up with this site which is cheaper than ebay http://www.fancydress.com/medusa?gclid=CJet1aD6rKQCFc792AodeF89cA hope this helps You could wear some leggings with the dress if you felt uncomfortable.

I think I would go with a toga-style dress, fastened simply at shoulder and waist. Then, get a swimming hat and a couple of packets of rubber snakes and superglue them to it. Failing that, a plain wig (green, black or whatever you fancy) and sew them in with a couple of stitches in the tails. :)

Rubber snakes which you should be able to find fairly easily from either a toy shop, party store or the halloween section of the supernmarket. Sewing them into a wig sounds like a great idea - again, probably quite cheap from a party store..or the party section of somewhere like wilko or homebargains?!

I also second the idea from KB above, if you don't have anything suitable to use as a dress, a toga style one from a sheet would be really simple, just drape and stitch as appropriate and then you can make it as long as you like..

Thanks all for your ideas. I will go on the snake hunt, I think a wig is a good idea and sew them in because I only have short hair so the effect won't be quite the same.
