Debt collection

Not strictly speaking a BR question but hopefully someone can advise. Had a joint account at Barclays with my wife which was £800 O/D when I declared BR which we knew she'd become liable for.
Been waiting for them to get in touch and were planning to offer them £50 a month which we can just about do, but had a card this morning from NCO Europe (not the most pleasant people it seems from a quick scan of the net) saying they'll be in "in contact" about it on Saturday.
So a few questions come to mind.
If the debt's been moved on does that mean the interest will stop? Or increase?
Are these people likely to accept the £50 a month offer and if so how should we pay it (there seem to be many people on the net warning against giving them CC/DC details)?
And if we can't come to agreement what will happen next?
It's complicated slightly by the fact that my wife has mental health problems and is completely terrified at the thought of dealing with these people, so she needs pretty specific instructions about what to say.
Be grateful for any advice.

I don't know but might be worth asking CAB to act on her behalf if she's mental health issues?
Personally I'd suggest offering a much smaller amount, certainly not any amount 'which we can just about do' - don't put yourselves under that kind of strain.
