Mortgage protection unemployment

I was made redundant at the end of May and thought I had protection for the amount of £400 per month against my mortgage.
However, the company who I thought I was covered by, Shelter Group, rejected my claim stating that I had been offered an alternative position which I should have taken while looking for alternative employment.
This is not the case, as I was actually offered an interview for a position that was already covered and the salary offered was just over half of that earned during the previous tax year, which would not have covered my outgoings by a considerable amount.
I then referred the matter to the Financial Ombudsman but was advised that the underwriters were in fact based in Denmark and were not covered under the FSA and therefore have to contact the Danish Ombudsman.
Does anyone have a similar experience and be able to offer any information on how I should proceed

Should an insurer be forced to pay out when you have refused to seek work?
A deliberately provocative question, but can you see where they're coming from?0
