1st credit becoming a nuisance, lcs solicitors involved now

Hi guys ...
I have just found a letter dated the 20th September, from LCS Solicitors on behalf of 1st Credit saying that I have 7 days from the date of the letter to pay in full (for a debt that I am sure my partner paid for me years ago, and that the original debt was taken out just over 5 years ago) or they may start court proceedings against me.
What's hacked me off is the fact that it's just a photocopied letter on horrible quality paper, and the fact that they're trying to get me to pay for a debt which I am sure has already been paid off.
I've tried ignoring the letters as they've come through, but when letters turn up from solicitors, it's slightly more difficult to ignore ...
Should I carry on ignoring the letters? I don't really want to acknowledge the letter, but if it's best for me to do so, then I will ...

I'd start by sending them a proove it letter.
It can be found here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
Remember.. dont sign the letter. Just type your name
I'd also recommend sending it recorded delivery
If/when they come back with something, then look at a CCA - or a SAR (£10) - by law they have to answer these, though most firms who buy debts from other companies dont bother with these and just try to pressure you!
Here is also the template letters.. browse for teh CCA and SAR as there are some other useful ones too: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/11570893#Comment_11570893
Good luck!
