BHS Credit Card - Not taking enough to cover minimum payment

Hi All,
Please can someone keep me right, I have a credit card from BHS underwritten by Barclay card, Two months ago my statement came in saying I was over my limit, I didnt understnd why. So I checked the statement to find that they have been charging me over limit fee for 4 months, stupid me I know should have methodically checked it each time it came in, I rang them to ask how this was as I have a direct debit set up to take the minimum amount each month. They informed me that the minimum amount was not enough to cover the minimum payment, I asked them to up the amount to ensure that the minimum plus that months ineterest was covered they told me they could not do this and that I needed to pay £375.00 immediately, I told them I was not in a postion to make a payment of this amount and asked that they wipe the charges and up what they are taking each month, again I was told no. Please can someone tell me how best to resolve this, I am not denying I have outstanding balance on card, but do not think I should have to pay charges etc for what I feel is them not taking enough money out each month to cover what needs to be covered. Sorry for going on and on, but was hard to condense. Help is much appreciated.

Hi
Not sure on this one but if its a DD they can swop and change minimum payment so it could be down to them but if its a standing order you would control it so it could be down to you maybe someone else will advise if Im wrong0 -
Hi
All cards are like this - if you set up a minimum payment DD this will take the minimum payment amount only (ususally a percentage of your balance) it will not take into account any extra you need to pay because you have gone over your limit. It is considered your responsibility to stay within your limit and if you go over to rectify the account yourself. Getting charged each month you remain over is standard within the industry.
The best I think you could hope for might be if you could get them to agree to reduce some of the charges (perhaps go halves with you) although this would be at their discretion only, if its the only time you have gone over sometimes they will agree to such a deal.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
