    Love this, Tixy:j

Evening all, quick bump from me, off to have a well-earned glass of white (sorry Red).

No apology necessary Solvent, I also provided white, as well as food and dessert. Help yourself.

Sister texted before to say that speech therapist has now seen Mam and she is allowed soft food and drinks with thickener in them. BS is going back down at 6 to see if she's had any dinner and will ring me when she gets home again

I've just had a phone call from my sister who was still at the hospital from 6 pm visiting. When she got there at 6 pm, couldn't find Mam, asked nurse who said that she had a bowel infection and needed to be isolated so they had put her in a single room out of the way. My sister found her in a room, opposite the exit, with nothing to watch and occupy her mind, but also out of sight of the nurses desk. Mam just wanted to go home, asked if my brother could come and fetch her, and kept trying to get out of bed. My Sister calmed her down and went to see the nurses again to complain, but they just said there was nothing they could do as she had to be isolated in case other patients caught it. My sister was livid as the nurses couldn't possibly keep an eye on her where she was, but they said they would look in on her every 10 minutes so she'd be OK. My sister was not impressed with this reply as there was 3 nurses and with all the other patients, they could not possibly manage to check her every 10 mins, and a lot could happen in 10 minutes anyway. They again said that there was nothing they could do, so my Sister said that she was staying the night with Mam, sleeping in the chair. The nurses said they didn't think she couldn't do that, so she said, you'd better check then, cause I'm staying. The nurses came back to say it was OK for her to stay but it was at her own risk and they could accept no liability for her. My sister had gone striaght from work and had not eaten, the cafe was closed and her husband was sitting in the car park waiting for her. she went out to give the car park token to him and told him to go home and get something to eat, but that she would do without as she was so worked up and upset. So when she rang me, she was going back into the ward to sit in the chair and watch Mam all night. I told her I would be in Newcastle at 10.05 am and I would ring her mobile then to see what was happening.

Even in the short time when my sister was talking to the nurses, Mam had the blankets back and was trying to get out of bed to get out of there, so there was no way that Sis was leaving her there alone. What makes it all worse is that 5 years ago our Dad was admitted to the same hospital, same ward, after a fall with a chest infection, caught the clostridium difficile bug there, was put into isolation and died days later. I can't wait to get up there now :(

    Hi 3dogs,

It's very annoying to see a relative distressed in the place they're supposed to be getting care, but in my experience, the more you speak to the nursing staff about it, usually the better the result. I hope your Mother gets better soon and can go home where she'll be more comfortable and less anxious.

I don't know what to say, 3Dogs. It's appalling and it must be much worse with your Dad's history. I'm so sorry, really hope you and BS manage to get something sorted for your mum tomorrow.

  • Hi 3dogs, hope all is well with you and your mum, I'm not up to speed with what's happened, but my thoughts are with you all.

Erme, just seen your email from 7pm this eve, are you ok, it seems like your having a bit of a bad time again. If you think the medics would call it delusional, then it probably is.

Best wishes to you all, handy.
