Looking for flexible work

I have been at home with my kids for the last 5 years on and off, and am now ready to start going to work again.
I am not looking for Party Plan, or Selling as I have been there done that.
I am not sure how to approach people with regards to flexible working and part time hours, my DS is in full time school and I would be looking to oput DD into nursery, but there seems to be very limited options.
I would ideally be looking for something 9-3 so i can pick up DS from school.
My experience:
Admin, 5 yrs Various depts of frieght forwarding co
Sales Assistant P/T weekends supervisory experience 6 months
I have a full driving licence with 3 points
Nothing seems to be out there, and all I want to do is go out to work and come home again, maybe I am asking too much, is there anywhere to look apart from the jobcentre, etc.
Any ideas would be great

Have a look on the web sites for local schools, as they often advertise admin. posts there, or in the newsletters that they send home with the children, which they also tend to post on their web sites.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0 -
Talk to the other parents when you drop off / pick up the kids at school to see if they know of anything.
Anther school time only job is Learning Support Assistant or Classroom Assistant.0 -
Thank you, have asked at the school gates but its all nannies and childminders that pick up the kids.... lucky themProud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0

Even nannies and childminders have friends, relatives or employers who may be recruiting.
I went on a pre-redundancy course two years ago and one thing that stuck in my mind was that 70% of jobs are never advertised. People get them through networking or sending CVs on spec to possible employers.0 -
I'm in a similar situation to you. I've been trying to find work for some time that fits in around school. There are some jobs out there, but they are few and far between and so far, I've not managed to get one!
I have just applied to Argos for work leading up to Christmas. I put the hours that I am available on the application form and they have asked me to go along to a interview/recruitment evening so I hope that means that it is possible to work short hours.
It isn't the sort of work that I am really looking for, but I've found that I can't afford to be choosy and it is at least some form of work and I will get some money coming in.0 -
My youngest son has just gone into fulltime school, and I am in the process of registering to be a childminder, but its going to take aaaages yet so in the meantime ive taken on some little cleaning jobs ( was a nursery nurse before having the youngest )
i do 2 domestic jobs 2 x 2 hrs a week £7.50 p/h
1 warehouse 5 x 2 hrs a week £5.75 p/h
1 warehouse 3 x 2 hrs a week £5.50 p/h
its easy work / money,if you dont mind cleaning that is lol
at the moment im doing 4 hrs cleaning a day mon - fri
9 - 11 am and 12.30 - 2.30pm
so i drop the kids to school and pick them up too
they are all local to me so not much travelling time / costs.
I also do mystery shopping and do at least 6 assignments a month.
I also have business cards printed up and do babysitting some evenings / wkends for £6 + p/h
Obviously its not what i want to do longterm! but at the moment its working well for us
I check the jobcentre website every day though and have just applied for a position at the local special needs school working 10am - 2pm term time
it would be fab if i got that as would still be able to drop off / pick up my sons and offer childminding before & after school and during school holidays
so there are jobs around that fit in and around school just depends how fussy you are i guess lol
good luck with finding something
