Collapsed bridges, unfinished facilities, stadium roof sections falling off, athletes village unfit for human habitation just days before the games start. etc, etc, etc.
And some posters here seriously think that these emerging nations are a threat to western business/economic dominance in the medium term?
Not a chance....
Many decades to go before such a vision has any chance of materialising.

China made a good job of the Olympic games.
It's best not to make sweeping generalisations.0 -

I don't really categorise China as an emerging nation in most ways. It's already an economic superpower.
I'm thinking more the countries like India, Egypt, Pakistan, etc.
Large economies, some level of techincal expertise, and an undeniable ability to take basic customer service/manufacturing/agriculture jobs from the west.
But still clearly lacking the ability to organise something as ordinary as a large sporting event even given 4 years notice....
Which makes me wonder, why do so many posters assume that the UK should be worried.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Next year India will get a third chance to prove it can stage a major sporting event after the Commonwealth Games debacle and - lets not forget - the security problems around cricket. It will get its own Grand Prix, 50km outside of Delhi. I actually think they will deliver the circuit on that one, but still have misgivings as a major F1 fan for the security of the teams and spectators.
India is a major economy with a lot of middle class people who are increasingly going to want access to the same sports and leisure activities that we have in the developed world. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Before criticizing others, let's see how 2012 turns out.In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0

Well, the call centres of emerging nations have certainly been a threat to my sanity and that of thousands of others.0

F1 is going fine. Why?
Because it's all private.
Commonwealth Games is public.
India has a problem with bribery and nepotism.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

This is just b'cos of the way it is handled by politicians. Don't judge the state of economy by looking at this.
May be the scottish boy is getting a bit jelous to see the almost double digit growth in India compared to the minicule growth at home.##
Oh! plus the property price across India is on the rise unlike UK where rise only happens in the little Aberdeen Town.0 -

Honestly. Hosting such an event in India, of all places! They must have known this was going to happen, surely. The Indians thought they could do this on the cheap and it backfired. It's all about money.0
