Baket Potato Tip

Options
I was watching the telly this moning and saw a great OS tip that I thought I'd share.( it was on one of these rooster potato adverts on UKFood)

When baking potatoes in the oven spike it end to end with a metal scewer, and leave in while baking, it halves the cooking time!

Thought this might come in handy for someone.

I remember years ago my mam had a gadget to bake potatoes on, it had 4 spikes on it, and a handle in the middle and it stood on a baking tray, sorry I'm not very good a describing things, I wonder if you can buy them anywhere, this would be ideal as sometimes my spuds stick to the baking tray and we loose some of the skin, the best bit IMO.

Lakeland used to sell them, but they don't any more.

I googled and came up with plenty of plastic versions for microwaves...and then I found one Aluminium one for normal ovens - have to be quick there;'s one available for 1 penny here:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Faringdon-Collection-17841366-Aluminium-Potato/dp/B0000BVFF0

Also available for a couple of pounds at The Cooks Kitchen. If the following link doesn't work, just go to thecookskitchen.com and search for "metal potato baker" http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_5523

When I was little my mum cooked jacket potatoes in the oven (didn't have a microwave at the time) and I remember me helping her push 2 metal skewers (the type with circles on the end to grip) through each potato in a cross pattern. Mine, done in the oven in bulk just don't taste the same no matter what I do

OH sticks the good table knives through spuds before baking them

It doesn't seem to do any harm to the cutlery as it's all stainless steel, but even so I don't bother after once absentmindedly (sp?) picking up one of those red hot knives with my bare hands. Errr.... ouch!

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
