Help and advice needed please!!

Hello alll
Im new, and i was hoping someone could give me some information or shed some light on this issue i currently have.

I just recently (3 days ago) lost my job. Now i have worked full time for this company, and had done all of my hours up until this day. My pay day is normally the 27th.

Yesterday, on online banking with HSBC, i checked my "Pending transactions" and my salary from work was due to go in on the 27th. (it showed this yesterday, friday). I checked again this morning and it has no disappeared. I phoned my bank and apparently they have told me the transaction has been reversed.

Surely I am entitled to my pay for the whole of last month? Perhaps maybe not the last 3/4 days as i would not of worked them, but what about the other 25 or so?

Now i phoned the shop i worked in to talk to my manager, and he said i should still get paid and to wait until Monday (my official pay date) to see if i get paid. But i know im more than likely not going to be as my bank said the transaction had been reversed.

Can anyone give me some advice on what my next actions should be incase i do not get paid? Am i entitled to get paid for the work I have done? or because i got fired do they not have to pay me a penny?

Anyone else have any pervious experience in this?

All help is much appreciated

Thank you

It sounds like they have recalled it in order to reissue the correct amount. This is quite usual, especially if you have left at short notice (or someone has not notified payroll early enough). Give them a call on Monday, they may well issue a manual payment instead.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thank you for your reply its very much appreciated.

The company is William Hill. Would i need to contact their HR department? Or just my shop?

Sorry, i am just really confused and i really cannot afford to not get paid :(
  • sorry for double post,

But can anyone offer any more help or information on this? Anyone been in the same position as me before? Any previous experiences?

    Thank you

As i do not know how long i will be out of employment for, i really just need to make sure I know exactly what do to in the event i do not get paid, as i am going to need this money to live on until i find a new job

It depends on what your company procedure is - some payroll depts will not even speak to individual employees. Check your account on Monday morning, if no joy then call your store manager, and if they are no help call HR.

At the moment you really are worrying about nothing. You will get paid for the time you have worked. Calm down.

I know i know. Sorry i am panicking, i just dont want to be left with nothing, especially when i have stuff to pay lol. I just dont understand why my payment was reversed and its not appearing on pending transactions now. I shal also check pending transactions tomorrow, if it does not show tomorrow, then i guess its not going in on monday and i should start worrying lol?

Regardless of the reason for your dismissal you are entitled to be paid up to the moment you left plus any accrued but untaken holidays. This is also true if you walked out.

If you were sacked, unless it was for gross misconduct, you are also entitled to payment in lieu of notice. This is one week for each year worked up to a maximum of 12 unless your contract specifies more.

If you have taken more than your pro rata holiday entitlement they are entitled to deduct this from you final pay.

If you incur a loss as a result of being paid late you MAY have a claim against them for this. You have a duty to minimise the loss as far as possible e.g. transfer savings rather than pay bank charges assuming this is cheaper etc.
  • Thank you uncertain.

And if i have not been paid on the Monday, what action do you recommend i take then?

Ring HR and take it up with them, personally I think you are worrying for nothing,

Stop worrying about what might happen, it might not, it probably wont.

Pour yourself a glass of red and relax, all will be well.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
