  • Posted on September thread, but not sure it's been seen, so
Mrs M - could you put Hippeechiq down for £275 for October please - and thanks once again to you, Pink Winged and Rosieben for running the thread. It's such a great motivator and help to so many people, me included :)

Keeping a daily tally of what you spend needn't be daunting, and if you're not dealing in cash only, is really the only way to see if you're coming in on budget or not.

My laptop doesn't have MS Word on it, so I've created a simple, basic document in Notepad every month.

It lines itself up in Notepad (but it's pushed it altogether on here, so you'll have to imagine it ;) ) so it's clearer than it appears below, but basically, I put the date then a tab of 10 spaces, then the shop/supermarket and a tab of 10 spaces, then the amount spent and a tab of 10 spaces and so on. It's a simple, easy to use/read document that instantly allows me to see how much I've spent and what's left available to me

The first 6 days of my challenge for September:-

    SEPTEMBER 2010 GROCERY SPEND

    01.9.10 ICE*AND 7.45 = 7.45
    01.9.10 TE*CO 21.99 = 29.44
    02.9.10 CO-*P 1.50 = 30.94
    03.9.10 TE*CO 5.69 = 36.63
    04.9.10 ICE*AND 7.30 = 43.93
    05.9.10 NSD 0.00 = 43.93

    Available balance £231.70

I use my laptop every day, so if I've had a spend, I go into Notepad and add the spend before I do anything else, and I've found it really takes the hassle out of working out if I'm coming in on budget or not.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, and I know there are other, more clever folk on here who do have MS Word, and do fabulous Spreadsheets that are far more comprehensive than my little list. But it may be of use to someone on here :)

My October challenge starts Friday and runs 1st-31st, so I'll see you all then

    Good luck everyone :)

  • Hi can I join in?? it will be from the 1st October 2010 till the 31st October 2010.

My budget is £90 for the month, I could probably make it a bit cheaper but this is my first real month of taking stock of what I spend since I lost my job, included in this months shopping is some bits and bobs for Christmas presents as my gifts this year are all going to be hampers, with a Dundee Cake, some HM Jam, Pickled Onions Chutnies and Beetroot etc..personalised to the persons particular likes.

Im finding the need to cut back hard, mainly due to my income dropping due to bieng on JSA and having a fixed income till I find a new job but its all for the good...and to my shame :o:owe used to shop and spend £90 ish a week for 2,:o:o:o what the heck on I dont know.
Under this new shopping regime Ive lost 8 lbs in weight and am better fed...so thanks and hello Im Annie56 hellooooo xxxx:rotfl::rotfl:
