Hello all, I've come for a vent:mad:
On Thursday I bought a pack of chicken wings in MrM, use by tomorrow. On Friday we had to go to the same town so went back to MrM for the Branston beans; as we raced through saw a pack of garlic & coriander pittas reduced so grabbed them. Put them in the freezer as soon as we got home.
Last night cooked pasta & sausage ragu, got 2 pittas and put in toaster, when I got them out they were mouldy:(
This morning got the wings out to marinate, as soon as I opened them you could smell they were off. There's nothing wrong with the fridge (pork mince from MrT was absolutely fine), everything's very cold.
So - MrM is 6 miles away. But, we wanted the wings, had dinner planned. So I drove there, yes they took them back (and of course I took the pittas too), but they had no more wings - and only plain pittas. So I did all that for a measly £1.02 refund, then had to spend £2.29 in W/ose for thankfully reduced drumsticks:mad:
And the only other thing needed was greaseproof paper and Wro didn't have any!!!
I tell you I was nearly in tears, those b****y chicken wings. It wasn't that they were off, it was that it then took me nearly 2 hours to sort it all out!
There, I feel better now, and I'm sure the drumsticks will be nice (I hate drumsticks lol). Haven't updated sig will do it tomorrow...0 -
86p on milk today.
I am going to make a real effort to empty my freezer as it needs defrosting. I can't help but buy something as I know I can stick it in there, but I must resist! Hopefully this will save me some money (and i'll no doubt end up with some funny meals).
My aim is to get it down to one drawer full (from 4) so that at least I can put that stuff in a coolbox while I do it.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Hello folks, my budget has taken a battering as I was at the good food show in Glasgow yesterday, but I have put quite a bit aside. I bought 6 x 400g Cheedar (3 mild/3mature) for £9, 2 warburtons toastie loaf (orange pack) 50p each, 4 pack of debbie and andrews sausages £10, 2 packs of 750g porridge oats at 50p each, tunnocks tea cakes 10 pack @£1 each, Tunnocks caramel logs £1. Had a great day out and if we had taken the car instead of the train I could have had more bargains. It was a great day.Every days a School day!0

Hi All,
I think I might just come in on target this month, I am at £166.28 from a budget of £175, just need some milk, yogurt and potatoes. My meal plan has completely gone out of the window (to be honest I haven't even looked at it for a couple of weeks), however I have been using up stuff from the freezer, and I bought some reduced veg today so i'm going to make green garden veg pie tomorrow. I've just made a kind of rocky road thing! I had some out of date desicated coconut, and some horrible fruit and nut mix, so I added that in with all the nice stuff - made me feel quite virtueous (sp?) not throwing the coconut/fruit out.
I feel quite envious of all of you who are getting prepared for the C word - food wise. There's only me and DH, neither of us like Xm*s cake or pudding, DH wouldn't eat chutneys or any of those goodies. His family are in New Zealand and mine only eat "plain" food, and would turn their noses up at anything, even slightly fancy. I would love to do a proper Xma*s spread - hey-ho, suppose I should be grateful Xma*s doesn't cost a fortune for us.

£3.85 spend at Lidl on bananas, toms, carrots, flour, dried fruit/nut, yog and some bits and bobs.
Didn't realise until I was on the bus home that they'd charged the banans as tomatoes- that precious 20-30p i've lost!
I'm already thinking about next month's GC- November is going to be tight so I'm considering dropping my GC to £40(even though I'm over £50!). I've cut down my drinking when I'm out so I alternate with super cheap and refreshing diet-pepsi but for November alcohol will be limited to £1.25 a pint night onlyLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Would any of you ladies - or gents - happen know if you can successfully freeze guinness?
I have been freezing wine for use in cooking for a long time now, and it tastes absolutely fine in cooking, but I'm just wondering if guinness would become very bitter if frozen and then defrosted?
I've found a recipe for a Beef & Guinness Casserole I'd like to try, but it only uses 150ml of Guinness. It's not something I/OH drinks, so the cheapest option would be to buy a single bottle of it but the smallest single bottle I can find is 500ml, so I'm thinking, if I can freeze it, I could get 3 recipes worth out of the 1 bottle
It's hard to tell by user names if there are any gents amongst us.....I have a feeling a couple of peeps on here are male, but wont say who, as I'd hate to cause offence and look a right pleb in the process if I'm wrong :rotfl:Aug11 £193.29/£240

I got a lift to Morrsions this weekend, which I was quite excited about as normally I can only go to MrTs as that's the only supermarket within walking distance. I only managed to spend £21.88 which I was pleased with. I like morrisons as they also do packs of meat and veg in single person sizes unlike MrTs which seems to only cater for families
Getting close to my budget of £150 now as I've spent £140.41.
