Toning up tummy area

Hiya

can anyone suggest some excercises or what I should do to tone up, I recently lost weight...yippee, and still have more to lose but I need to tone up particulary my tummy area and lower tummy, I have always found these areas difficult to tone in the past

I dont like going to the gym, I have been walking and going to Zumba, but these dont really help the tummy, I wondered about a rowing machine but have never used one!

......any ideas?
Waddle you do eh?

  • Congratulations on your weightloss.

You need to work that area. I do crunches on a roll bar type thing. You can also do them on those inflatable gym balls. Hula hooping is also a good and fun thing to do. Rowing machings do work the tummy but only as a secondary workout (primarily being arms and legs), but anything that works those muscles will all lead to improvement.

    Good luck!
  • Am I right in understanding that toning the stomach area is also very dependent on your diet?

I've been thinking about this as I'm pregnant at the moment but would like to go to the gym sometime after the baby is born to tone up if needs be. I know I've read that what you eat is a factor, something about avoiding starchy foods like potatoes, white pasta and the like?

At the moment, I'm learning to do belly rolls(belly dancing class). As you're learning to control your tummy muscles, it stands to reason it should help with toning those muscles.

If you're interested, then all you have to do is place your hands flat on top of your tummy, one hand covering the top half of the tummy, and the other hand over the remaining half, which should be the half with your belly button.

Then try to contract your tummy muscles so that one of your hands is pulled inwards. Then do it for the other hand.
At first, most people won't see much independent movement(some people can naturally do tummy rolls, the way some people can just curl their tongues). But if you keep at it, doing it a few times each day, you will eventually see a "wave" pattern in the movements.
