streetbank - lend/borrow, give away or share skills etc

Came across this website (streetbank.com) today - sounds like a nice idea:

Here's the blurb:

"Streetbank puts you in touch with your community, bringing neighbourboods closer and making the world a bit nicer. See members living withing one mile, make requests on the community noticeboard, lend items, give away unwanted stuff and ask for help."

"...shows you what your neighbours will give away or lend. It gives you access to a whole load of stuff, is good for the environment, saves you money and builds community all in one go. It is totally free to join though to become a member you have to show that you are a little bit community spirited by offering on thing you would be willing to lend or give away."

A bit like a mix between a localised version of freecycle, LETS and a few others...

Would be nice if :money: would promote sites like this in the weekly newsletter occassionally rather than just the latest deal on tat at Tesco or whatever! ;)
"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

  • ^ but it looks like a good site and a great idea
scary having to list things without being able to see what other people have already entered, but that's good in a way as you're showing/proving that you're not just joining in order to take, take take (& the example list is useful).

Just joined but there's nobody else near me on there though - bah :(

(eek at the thought of having to get to know the neighbours)

As a Gigolo advertised his services on our local Freecycle Group(seriously!) it would appear that this scheme would give greater scope!;)

Wow! I was only working on a project like this today only aimed at residents in the street where I live. I've been thinking about it for ages and the recession (and the thought of less Police and higher possibility of crime) was the kick up the butt I needed to actually start putting ideas down on paper (ok typing it up on my pc).

I must go and check it out.....
