Hi guys...I have 2 P.C;s...a prestige which holds pressure perfectly on the lowest setting of my gas ring....and my fairly newly acquired Kuhn Rikon....im only now getting more time to use the new K.R pressure cooker, but im finding for longer cooking items im having problems regulating the pressure..The K.R is actualy noisier than the prestige...every now and again it lets out a loud "whoosh" of steam and continues to do so until i manualy release pressure with a wooden spoon, when on for a while it is way beyond the 2nd ring...I cant seem to regulate it just on the 2nd ring, and ive no chance of cooking on the first ring only...this is even when using my smallest gas at the lowest setting...any tips please?

Carry on using the PrestigeSeriously, any reason why you can't do that - you seem to have a perfectly good PC, so why replace it?

I was going to get a KR Pressure Cooker, but it looked so small and at £90 was a lot of money... I bought Jamie Olvier's Multicooker from Lakeland for £100 and it's the best thing EVER!
Write to KR telling them you are having problems with your PC and then ask them to refund your money and my JO Multicooker! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I have the KR and it is the best I have ever used over 50 years. It is silent in use. You need to lower the heat underneath op. It is also absolutely brilliant on a portable induction hob0

Thanks guys...Kittie as Gigervamp said I am already using it on the lowest setting, this is the problem,I cant reduce the gas any lower...Penelope. Penguin I am still using the prestige,,the KR. was an addition rather than a replacement, having two was making life a lot easier, especialy if i was cooking families full meal before work(meat in K.R and potatoes veggies in prestige),also the K.R works at a higher pressure, giving better quicker results(But this may be where the problem lies)
JulieGeorgina believe me,I thought long and hard between the K.R and the Jamie O....I even had a post running on the forum asking opinions, what put me off the Jamie O one was that it was a lower power of 11psi...and as far as i know it takes 20mins for potatoes (is this correct?)
Thanks for all the input guys, appreciate everyone taking the time to reply...im off all weekend, will try and use it for a variety of foods and see how it goes....so far its been terrific for anything around 5-20mins(tho even then i have to manualy release pressure at least once)but last week with a couple of joints up to 40mins,I couldnt get it to maintain at 2 rings at all...always way above and hissing like mad.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

Yesterday I timed it,.(takes about 3mins to get to pressure,(this is when i reduce the gas)..it first starts hissing and whooshing steam at 11mins exactly, and thats with the gas at its lowest setting, its after this time that i have to release steam every 5mins or so,in its defence it did cook the braised steaks quicker and (i think)with less shrinkage than the prestige one did(I had the 2 PC's on at the same time with the same food in)...not using either today, but im gonna be cooking a chicken tomorrow,so it should be on around 30mins,il see how many times i have to release pressure during cooking then try and work out if its maybe faulty or not...(but with so little "workings",I dunno if a PC can be faulty?Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I have a KR pressure cooker and find that it requires very fine adjustment to keep the pressure stable. I use mine on an induction hob so it does not present a problem, but I imagine that on a gas hob it may not be possible to adjust the heat so precisely - perhaps a heat diffuser might help?
I have found the Kuhn Rikon to be the best pressure cooker I have ever used.

Thanks moor426,I never thought of trying a heat diffuser...the lakeland one has mixed reviews,so il maybe try and get one elsewhere, its worth a try cos the KR,is a terrific pressure cooker...I think its just my gas is too much for it.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I had stopped using my tefal PC as the hissing frightened me (I know that's wimpy) but my KR has been wonderful. I use it on a gas hob, and was also going to suggest a heat diffuser if you can't get the gas low enough. I do stay in the kitchen with it for a while once its up to pressure just to make sure it doesn't overheat and start hissing, but I've got quite good at judging it now. If you bought it from Lakeland they would refund you if you can't get on with it, but I find mine wonderful (as I know others on here do too) so maybe try the heat diffuser first ? I suppose gas burners are all a bit different, and mine are quite good at giving a really low flame. Hope you can get it sorted as when it works well it is a DREAM to cook with !0

Thanks morganleyfay...I did get the pressure cooker from Lakeland, but i think the problem is probably due to my hob rather than the K.R.
Today I cooked a perfect "roast chicken" in 20mins...the rod was still above the 2nd ring so cooking at slightly higher pressure than it should, but there was no whooshing or hissing at all.
I will try and get a diffuser,im wondering if reducing the liquid in my cooking may help too, because today the chicken only had 100mls in and there was no excess steam..it is far superior to the prestige in the way it cooks, altho i was happy with the whole chickens done previously in the prestige the K.R was quicker ,but also produced a moister chicken...might be worth keeping it for that reason aloneSlimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
