Finding out what I owe and to who....

I need some help.
I have outstanding debt mounting up to about 20k...the problem I have is that it has dragged on for MANY years and I dont know what I owe and to whom.
Ive moved houses about 4 times in the past 3 years and I have documents relating to outstanding debt, but some of it has been passed from credit agency to credit agency.
Its my own fault, but Ive never been able to pay it back. Now I can and I want to pay it, but I cant as I dont know who to call. I called one creditor and they informed me they no longer hold the debt so I dont know what to do.
Does Creditexpert tell you what you owe or who too? I need to find out so I can pay this all back and rebuild my life and credit rating.
Any help gratefully received.

If you get a credit report (Experian/ Equifax) that will tell you about some of the debts. Doing that may well tie previous addresses together and result in other creditors contacting you. Whether you view that as a good or bad thing is up to you.
Remember creditors will be open to full & final settlement deals.0 -
In addition to fatbelly's advice - if some of these debts are very old and you have been avoiding them for a while you might want to read up on statute barred debts, in case any may fall into that category as with SB debts the debt collection agencies will still chase you and tell you that you need to pay but legally you wouldn't need to.
Factsheet (for england/wales) here - http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act
Also if you do consider full & final settlements then this factsheet - http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=24_full_and_final_settlement_offers is worth a read.
Get a copy of your credit report and you are likely to find that debt collection agency letters start to arrive within a month or so.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Tixy do you know if this applies in Scotland also?0

Hi
Yes it does apply to Scotland, but you don't have to wait as long - it's 5 yrs in scotland & 6 yrs in England. Also in Scotland the debt is legally gone!0 -
