Complaint about a hospital service

Hi everyone.
Just wondering if anyone knows where i can write a complaint to about service I received from the local hospital? I dont want to write to NHS - but wondered if there is some sort of controlling body over them?

Many thanks:T

The best place to start is probably the PALS service at the hospital itself: it's not a formal complaint service, but they will tell you how to make one if the matter can't be resolved. The intention is that they find out what's gone wrong and try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I've always found them very helpful if I've run across a stupid 'rule' or lack of communication.

You can copy the PCT into the complaint, but until you make the complaint to the hospital, the Ombudsman will not touch it and the PCT would likely forward it to the hospital for them to deal with and ask for a copy for their records.

If you are concerned about the letter going astray, write to the Cheif Executive at the hopistal - it will then be directed appropriately and you will get a response and details of how to take it further if you are still not happy.

Make sure all is written correspondance and keep a dated copy for your record.

PALS first and then if you look at your hospital website they have a complaints procedure on there (usually that you complain to the Centre Manager or similar and they process it within x days etc etc.)

Also in your complaint make sure you stick to facts and feelings

    Your nurse said/did this......
    That made me feel .....

Rather than just your nurse upset me because then they see the whole situation. And remember a place of health treatment is a very difficult situation as it always incurs a loss of control which staff are supposed to help you not feel. If you have been treated unfairly tell them what you feel should have happened eg - If however she had spoken to us a little longer and explained the situation I feel I would have been a lot more relaxed.

Try not to blame - You are a disgrace.... just as i said facts and feelings.

Good Luck and hope you get the positive outcome you want x
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
