Interview help

  • Just got back from the interview, I was a little disappointed in the interviewer as he didn't seem to know what he was doing and didn't really try to get to know me. I didn't plan on trying to force through what I planned to say, so I couldn't get to say any of it (although I did manage to ask questions).

    Thanks everyone who helped :p

    What did they ask you?
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
  • Really not much. Met the guy, he admitted he only had a short look at the CV's and wasn't completely prepared.

Straight away he gave me a tour of the factory, I asked a few questions about some of the machines, how they get their stuff and how its put together ect.

Then he took me into the office and told me about how they were slightly affected by the recession as they had less clients and had to let people go, but they have been getting better since and are now employing more staff ect.

He didn't ask me about anything on my CV or what I knew about the business or what they do. As I didn't prepare for trying to force my answers at him, I decided not to do it, I would proberly mess it up and ruin the interview. :(

How odd. At least he was honest! It was good that you showed interest and asked the questions, though, and asked about the machines.

    When will you know?

  • Yeah im happy he didn't just pretend to be really busy.

He said he has more people to interview today and next week, so either late next week or early the following week.

I also handed over a job centre letter about the recruitment subsidy voucher for £1000 if they hire me, hopefully that will swing things my way :D

  • Well done, sounds as if you did all that you could reasonably do.

    Fingers crossed for you.

    Let us know what happens.

Oh and by the way, don't give up looking. You never know you may get more than one offer to consider.

Im 19 and haven't yet been able to get a job (multiple failed interviews) so obviously my interview skills are pretty week (Iv failed at ASDA and Mcdonalds.... (Yes, I couldn't get a job at a dead end poor quality and humiliating business).
A lot of people have bad impressions of places like this, but for some these jobs are great as they can be flexible to work around other priorities, have good benefits/discounts/pension schemes, and you get to meet lots of great [and some not so great] people. Don't be disheartened by being unsuccessful at jobs like this. You'll be surprised at just how many people apply for them and the reason you were unsuccessful could be as simple as others applying who have more experience and don't need training. I've been unsuccessful with McDonald's three times to date, and the same with other companies, but I don't let it put me off applying again if more opportunities come up.

The biggest pain is trying to get a job to gain experience, when all the jobs you apply for require experience in the first place. It's a vicious circle. But perseverance is key, don't give up and it will soon pay off. At the moment I'm applying for at least 3-5 jobs a day, if not more, and only hearing back from about 10% of them, with about 5% offering me a job. It's hard going, but if you keep trying it will all pay off soon enough. Best of luck with your interview!
