Why is it so hard to find a decent brolly?

Okay, I know it sounds silly, but I need a decent umbrella and seem to have no luck with them. I've bought both cheap ones and expensive ones and there often isn't much difference between them.

They don't get any abuse or anything, so why are they usually so rubbish? I walk the kids to school twice a week so need a big 'golfing' type brolly for that, and I also need a compact one that will fit into my bag for when I am out and about as part of my job.

What tends to happen is that they blow inside out and then never go back properly. You know that poor windswept woman, soaking at the side of the road whilst wrestling with her out-of-control umbrella (in quite an amusing way), whilst you are cosy inside your car? That's me :(.

  • I got a small compact one from monsoon/accessorize about 4 years ago and its still as new- it has been used loads aswell.

A tad pricey at £16 at the time but i feel its worth it because its lasted so long!

  • I've bought 2 Storm ones from TK Maxx recently priced £9.99 both great - unfortunately managed to mislay 1st one - typical! Would def recommend - I've also seen a couple of parents in playground with clear plastic brollys which look similar to one I had as a kid, they are similar in shape to childrens umberellas and as they are dome shaped the wind doesn't catch them, apparently Primark sell them.
