So, have you got any question marks next to devices in device manager, If so, have you looked on the manufacturers website for drivers?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

How many USB sockets have you got on your PC. Have you tried them all?Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

When you go into device manager, and expand the USB tab, what exactly does it show.
And I assume none of the devices were physically connected when you loaded the drivers?0 -

But those drivers are presumably for your webcam? As you have formated the hard drive, you will need to install motherboard chip-set drivers which are used to communicate with peripheral devices.
HTH:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
BigDunc I have 4 usb ports and none of them work, however my external hard disc when connected does work, although this is just plug and play..no software.
bingo bango It just shows the usb devices there is nothing there to suggest they are not working. No none of the devices were connected when I loaded the drivers.
espresso When I had reinstalled window I then loaded all the drivers that came with the machine whcih were on sep cds.. Is the motherboard chip-set driver something else? and if it is what do I do about it?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

It is, as it has nothing to do with Windows, rather the actual physical chip on your mobo, which contains the BIOS, and on startup tells your PC to look in the HDD for Windows, start the USB ports, serial ports etc. You may need to install the latest version. This can normally be done by visiting your Mobo manufacturer's website, which should have the latest drivers, and a utility to install them. If you're unsure of the exact model, check on the mobo itself, it should be printed on.0 -
Thanks bingo bango, I did that and downloaded up to date drivers from the website ((There is a programme called FreshDiagnose which is free, which tells you everything you want to know about your machine, including motherboards, useful)) However the bad news is that did not work either. So all I can say is "argghh". What now??Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

I suppose the only answer is to reinstall windows again and see what happens. Why does this always happen to me?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

This time round, make sure you do the XP updates before trying to load drivers for any hardware.0
