My pledge to give Xmas pressies to my postie, dustbin men, milkman & newspaper kiddo

Hi guys,

I don't know about you but usually I do not leave anything for my postie / dustbin men or such at Xmas.. and I think it's about time ( in an uber money saving way obviously ) that I did and showed them that I appreciate what they do!

All these guys / girls are mostly out in all weathers, providing a good service and I don't think it is recognised enough! Or maybe I am the one that is behind on doing this?!

My postie leaves all my parcels ( except fragiles :) ) in a safe place for me, then I don't have to wonder into Town. My dustbin men always take whatever is outside my house, and even pick out the rubbish from my hedge that people throw in. My Newspapers are always delivered on time, and dry majority of the time. I don't have any milk delivered so can't comment on that.

So guys do you give any presents / cards or tokens of appreciation in Xmas spirit?

Got any plans to leave anything this year?

Anyone want to join my pledge?

I suppose I could leave something for the dustbinmen. Trying to guess which house they've left the bin outside of and then dragging it back to mine keeps me agile which is a bonus.
  • When I delivered newspapers years ago, I used to put a xmas card through with the paper every year. I got more than treble what others at the same place got, it paid for my BB camp and other trinkets at the time.

We usually buy a tin of biscuits for the bin men. We have nothing else delivered though.
  • Considering they get paid pretty well for their jobs, no I don't leave them anything. Plus, what they do is in their job description.
  • My window cleaner gets a fiver for a pint, the bin men get a box of beer and my postie gets a bottle of wine.:T

I to think we should appreciate the good work that they do

Do you hide the beer halfway down the street outside a random neighbour's?
  • My council in Gloucestershire is currently deploying random bin inspectors.

In this case, do you think I should give them a tip?

I'm always confused about this why are Dustbinmen and Postman more worthy of a Christmas gift than Shopworkers you meet weekly. Trafficwardens, Your GP, the streetcleaner, Council office workers, Those Telesales people, or even Martin Lewis, in fact anyone else you meet daily/weekly who is doing a good job that they get paid for.

Why are Dustmen and Postmen more worthy than others?

    Me too....

I found that simply writing the house number too increased their generosity.

I remember reaching £230 odd quid one year from just my Sunday and weekday round. That was 50% of my annual wages so it was a hefty bonus.... Not to mention the addition of £30 odd from the pot in the shop where anybody and everybody left change and it was divided accordingly.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

And why do nurses and full-time mothers always get a round of applause when they say what they do on game shows?
