    Hi

At the moment it looks like you have more money coming in than going out. Is that right? Do you have that spare £125?

Are you posting because you want to pay off your debts more quickly? If so it would help if you can give us the balances on your debts and the APRs so that we can see you position better.

You seem to have nothing budgeted for entertaiment/media/socialising etc? is that right or have you not included it? if you haven't included it then this may be why you are showing a surplus but dont actually have it.

A good idea is to start a spending diary for a couple of months where you record everything you spend, even just 50p on a newspaper etc.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give

As others have said what do you want to know now?

How to cut your expenditure? How to deal with your debts?

People here can be very helpful but aren't clairvoyants:).
  • Sorry, didn't make myself clear again.

I posted on here as the budget brain website suggested to..
    Statement of Affairs

I did it after quite a long day and didn't realise fully the purpose and what info you were going to see.. obviously only what i put in!

I#m not sure what advice I'm looking for really, i found the budget brain website, and it went from there. I suppose it would be nice and very useful if someone were to look at my finances to see if I'm doing things correctly?

I moved into my house 12 months ago so everything is probably up for renewal/contract expired etc so good time to post...

    To answer Tixy's questions.....
    Gas . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 this looks quite high for 1 person. do you have arrears? have you checked to see if you are with the cheapest supplier and best tariff?
No, no arrears.. standard meter on E.ON track & Save 2 plan, First 670 kw @ 7.767p, then 3.399p - I will attempt a better rate now i know what i am more likely to be using per month (after 12 months experience!)
    Water . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 20.22 are you on a water meter? if you live alone it can often work out cheaper
Yes, water meter & I do live alone. Although there isn't much competition here is there? - i'm still with what ever they offer.. i think non-metered was around £450 a year.
    Council Tax . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 72.00 if you live alone are you claiminng the 25% discount?
Yes i get my 25% discount.
    Mortgage/Rent . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 488.81 is this mortgage or rent? if a mortgage how much do you owe and what apr? is it interest only or repayment?

    Mortgage - £81,000
    total repayment is £162.943,
Overall Cost for comparison is 5.0% APR
    Payments = 61 x £488.81 @ 6.49%
    then 359 payments of £369.78 @ 4% (variable)
    Term is 5 years.(started 01/10/2010)
    Petrol/Diesel . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 138.00 are all the journeys you do essential? do you drive efficently?
Yes I think so. Accordingly to fuelly(which i cant post a link to however can search for my name under db666) it suggests i'm getting around 42mpg so for a 1.2 clio that's not bad considering i travel around 13000 miles approx a year.
    Credit Card Repayments. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 is this just the minimum?how much do you owe and what apr?

£55 is an amount i've worked out to ensure the card is paid off by the time the 0% interest runs out.

Originally i transfeed my insurance on the card 250.36 (7.46 fee) which was at 0% for 9 months back on the 30/03/2010
Then I had an accident which i had to pay my access of £200 (fee of 5.96) which is also on 0% for 9 months which started 08/07/2010

Current balance of the card is £210.69 - I try to pay as much as i can do the card to get rid of the debt asap - might have some extra money this month which i can pay towards the card.
    Hire Purchase Repayments. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 133.12 what is the balance? how soon is the paid off? (assume its a car?)

I pay 82.12 to Renault Finance a month and then save 51.00 into a Virgin money ISA (current value - £1,631.35) (which will go towards my balloon payment at the end of my contract with Renault)

I had 5681.25 on HP at 6.2% APR for 49 months starting on the 20/03/2008 - i'll have to ring for a settlement figure if you require me to more specific tomorrow as i'm unsure what that works out to be.

When my HP agreement finishes i'll pay Renault the £2400 (iirc) which is oustanding and then sell the car myself etc.
    Personal Loan Repayments. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 102.36 how much do you owe? how soon does it finish?

I took a £5000 loan out on the 07/06/2008 for 5 years (with the intention of paying it off within 6-12 months) for the purchase of some shares however, things didn't go quite according to plan so therefore this is still outsanding.

Not sure for definite without ringing up the finance company but I believe I'm paying 8.408% APR.

Last statement i have is on the 01/06/2010 I owed 3787.32)
Entertainment is this realistic? do you really spend nothing on entertainment at all?

I cant be too specific about these areas as I'm not really sure. What I have spare each month i spend but i couldn't say that every month i x on entertainment as its not like that - if i have something spare i'll "entertain" myself.. if i dont.. i wont! :)
    New Clothes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.00 is this realistic long term?
I have quite a lot of clothes, long term... maybe in a years time i could do with some more... but i tend to rely on birthdays and christmas for these.
    Birthdays . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.00 is there no one you buy presents for?
    Christmas . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.00 nothing at all?
Fair point - I do... usually i tend to use my credit card during xmas and once again take advantage of the 0% interest free. I suppose if budgeted this during the year it would make sense.
As others have said what do you want to know now?

How to cut your expenditure? How to deal with your debts?

People here can be very helpful but aren't clairvoyants.

I suppose what i'd like to know is am i going wrong anywhere, i wanted other peoples POV's on my finances to see where I can improve.

I always use my cards (debit card) for my purchases, i tend to transfer an amount of money to both my credit cards at the start of each month to pay for my shopping & fuel so that what i have is really what i have.. it also makes it easier to keep a track of what i'm spending (a specific credit card is for fuel, and another one for food shopping)

I would appreciate anything really - opinions etc =)

    TIA
    DB

Very good I've always wondered where that weird budget brain thing comes from now I know. Just a note, the one on makesenseofcards is much better...Nothing to add as I think you've got everything covered. It seems like the £125 excess goes on what you expect it go on, the entertainment and presents/christmas and so on. So you're doing fine.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Here's the link to the SOA that is generally used on here:
    http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

You've already done the hard work so it shouldn't be too hard to pop it into that format.

You will see that the SOA has info about any debts you might have and interest rates which the one you posted doesn't have.

I'm sure you'll have lots more comments & advice.
  • Ah ok - no problem.

Should I delete this thread (and copy the content with an SOA) to a new one?

    Hi

No reason to delete this, we are more used to seeing the other format but this one has been fine for what advice you wanted.

I'd say all in all you seem to have things under control.
Good idea to check over your finances like gas & elec to see if you might get a better deal.
With water thats not too high, I suppose its worth saying try not to waste water, as that wastes your money, perhaps have a read of the tips here - http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/environment/using-water-wisely/ten-tips/ (or on any water company website)

It sounds like you are being pretty sensible in terms on ensuring the card is paid off before the 0% ends and in saving the money for your balloon payment.

When you car finance finishes if you keep that car for a while then I would suggest you keep saving the ISA amount and also save what you were paying in repayments so that you can build up some savings or to put towards another car when you need.
Alternatively assuming your loan allows overpayments perhaps divert what you were paying to the car repayment to pay extra off the loan.

If you regularly buy your petrol, shopping etc on a credit card and always pay it off the next month then if you haven't got one already you might want to get a reward/cashback card for this that will give you rewards for spending on the card - there is a guide here - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/cashback-credit-cards
or even consider a card with a sign-up freebie http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/credit-card-special-offers

Sounds like overall you are doing pretty well.
