Orange/HSBC Direct Debit ****up - so angry!

I am so cross with Orange Home and HSBC!
I had a letter from Orange today telling me they hadn't been able to take payment for my Orange Home calls and my account is overdue (I rent my line from BT but pay Orange for my very few calls).
It turns out that the reason they haven't been able to take payment via my Direct Debit is because the amounts have been too small (ie only pennies per month) so HSBC have refused to pay it! Which means my account has built up month on month as if I had ignored my bills! And it is now several months overdue! And then for some reason (which the silly Indian man couldn't explain) Orange cancelled my payment details from their system, as they hadn't been used for months.
This makes me so angry as I have NEVER missed a payment for anything in my life ever, and am of course worried about the impact on my credit report. Orange have assured me it won't be on my credit report but I don't believe a word those idiots say.
Has anyone else ever heard of this ridiculous situation? Surely if I set up a DD it should go out if there's money in my account! GRRRR!

Gosh! I can identify with that!
Apart from the problems I've had with Halifax credit card applications recently I also opened a current account with them 2 months ago.
1.They have f**ked up my loan (ironically with themselves) twice in two months (i.e. 100% failure rate!) causing me to pay late the first time and incur a charge (which they revoked after I complained) and this month they took the money from my employers account and not mine! (they had the account details as this is the account I get paid from) -They even inferred I had set up the DD online! (bullsh*t as I left all the DDs/So's to them, I hadn't even set up my own internet banking).
How embarrassing was that!
2.I also found out today they hadn't set up or paid my BT bill either.
3.After checking my online banking tonight they still haven't fixed up the loan DD properly either.
I think enough is enough: thank god I hadn't got round to closing my previous natwest current account as I have written a stinking letter to Halifax and given them 2 weeks to reply with a satisfactory reply (ie a large amount of cash and a grovelly apology), otherwise it'll be goodbye current account, savings account, credit card and mortgage (I'm just buying another house) and a letter to the financial ombudsman etc.
I am afraid it's like Martin Lewis says: they don't give us any 'loyalty': don't give them any either!
If they screw up more than once it's about time you tell them you're considering going elsewhere and then do it if they don't make amends.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Orange home missed payments went on my credit report with Equifax. My direct debit got cancelled for some reason and I never noticed as normally I dont get charged anything as it's all inclusive. Only after two missed paymentsof £5 did they contact me to tell me the direct debits have been bouncing back and I've got two missed payment notices now on my credit file. Cheers Orange!Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
