Halloween

Options
Hi, As part of my GCE Business, i have to set up my own mini company, our target market is Halloween, i was just wondering how much the average people spend during the hallowenn period, what people do at Halloween and how popular Halloween really is. If you could answer these questions for me it would be a really big help.

Thank you.

do you have an online survey we can participate in ?

i dont think i spend much at all during halloween, i always get a few bags of sweets, usually from the pound shop and nobody turns up to trick or treat them so we end up, either giving them to my partners nephews, our friends daughter or eat them ourselves

i dont think its nearly as popular as it was back in the late 1970s/ early 80s when i was a child, more likely because its not as safe for children to go out without adult mentors alone, although we used to have adults with us in a tiny tiny village anyway, or wether its just that people dont have interest in it and cant really bothered anymore, plus people are trying to curb their spending at this present time
  • No sorry, i dont have an online survey created, however what you have said has been a great help. Thank you

I think Halloween is still popular when people have children- its just they take their little uns round their friends only or else they arrange a get together eg playgroup mums get together and do a party rather than guising.

I do party bags for the local kids and have lanterns in my windows and on my doorsteps. I find I get a couple of huge groups of children then thats that.

This Halloween my friend has organised a murder mystery party :) HTH

I manage a youth centre and have to say that the young people we work with are really big on Halloween. Every year we have a series of events around the week of Holloween including a murder mystery event, a fancy dress disco, Halloween themed quiz night, gig night and various fancy dress parties for lots of the local youth clubs. At all of these events the young people really throw themselves into it and especially love dressing up, the free food and the prizes.

I should add that the young people we work with are aged between 10 years old right up to 25 years!!! When it comes to the fancy dress age doesn't matter to my lot and they go all out - as do the staff team. The week long events are a real highlight and the young people talk about if for the rest of the year.

Edit - We spend a good bit of money on these events roughly £500.

    Hi ya
It might be worth posting over on the small buisness board http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27 as there are alot of people in very differing buisnesses who would also help with a buisness point of view.
Im my last pub, we used it as an opportunity, and would spend a fair amount maybe £100 on decorations (adding to the previous years ofc!), pumpkins, prizes for games etc, we made it a themed night. However that was a very different place to my new pub, and we don't really acknowledge it here as it isnt appropriate for this buisness, though I might buy a few pumpkins to keep the staff happy and make soup out of afterwards!

Perhaps try emailing the big party suppliers like peeks and see if they will give you any rough guidelines or figures based on halloween stuff.

Not sure what your mini company is supposed to do, or is that the point, you have to use halloween to think of ideas? I would go for a farmers market and sell pumpkin soup and the like, cheap to make and high margins :D

I spend about £10 for goodies for the trick and treaters and make up treat bags. I don't really spend much on my kids now as they are older and not really into Halloween now. I bought a costume for my niece and it cost me £12.
