Halloween

Hi, As part of my GCE Business, i have to set up my own mini company, our target market is Halloween, i was just wondering how much the average people spend during the hallowenn period, what people do at Halloween and how popular Halloween really is. If you could answer these questions for me it would be a really big help.

Thank you.

  • Here in Derry Halloween is the biggest festival to hit our streets every year... thousands of people flock to the city for the 31st October...
It's probably more popular here than any other part of Ireland & possibly the UK...
We usually buy material and make our own costumes... (thrifty way I know but why pay out big money on silly costumes that never last anyway)
As for spendig well because its poular here we all like to make a night of it so taking in grub and a few drinks it can all add up... hope that helps in some way
  • Hello,

our household has 2 adults and 2 dogs, we don't spend much, usually get a few bags of funsize sweets, stuff we would eat anyway for the trick or treaters and maybe a pumpkin for the window. Probably a fiver at the most.

    Hope that helps
  • Thanks so much.. i forgot all about how derry really celebrate Halloween with big fireworks and stuff, only been once when i was little kid so i dont know that adult side of things, so im sure that also brings in alot of money,
I can see how if there arent any children in the family halloween can be a bit boring, but people still have to spend money for trick or treaters, so thatnk you for your input.
    anyway thanks so much.
  • Hi Chloe

Spend Halloween at home having a party. Would tend to need to buy new decorations each year as I can never remember where i've put lazst years and would spend on average £20 on decorations (this might be less this year with Poundland bargains!!)

Would tend to have a big family party and would spend on average minimum £50-£60 on food not includng alcohol.

Costumes-tend to reuse or make - wouldn't spend a lot

Hope this helps with assignment and good luck!!
  • how much the average people spend during the hallowenn period
I would say this year it will be a few pounds on sweets for trick or treaters, already have decorations and costumes.
    what people do at Halloween
last year we went to a fancy dress party at a friends, we normally watch the belfast fireworks too. This year we might have a party at hour house, which would mean spending prob £40. We will either go to fireworks at mossley mill or into town.
    how popular Halloween really is
I really like halloween, not as much as Christmas tho! Like to dress up and watch fireworks. We also put some decorations around house and in front window.
  • how much the average people spend during the halloween period?
I have always improvised Halloween. Last year I went around IKEA and bought everything orange and black: candles/carpet circles/voiles. I covered my internal doors with the orange voile and put plastic spiders over it. We made fake tomb stones for the garden, and we had grown our own pumpkins for the front step. This year I shall use all the previous yrs stuff plus buying things from carboots. The trick in saying money is packing the stuff away very carefully so it can be brought out the next year.

Unfortunately here in Ballymena some people(those churchy types) poo-poo Halloween . Infact after I had sent out some Halloween party invites the parents of those kids have never spoken to me again....did they think I was a devil worshipper...ha ha ha
ALl we have done when having a party was: dumking for apples/pass the parcel with halloween sweets in middle/decorated cup cakes with green/black icing& many coloured sprinkles...had sparklers...party lasted for about 2 hrs with kids...great fun and lots to eat, with halloween themed food.

Again, here in NI..we are sooo behind the likes of Canada, where they do trick&treat ...but the likes of Londonderry it is a great fun time and lots of people have fun and that is all what it is about :):D
I think the only way people are going to 'join in' more is for them to see what other countries do and follow that lead. NI is slow to change..but hey as far as my house is concerned...i love Halloween...and my kids look forward to it and the party :):D

  • Sometimes we go to Halloween parties, either in clubs or someones house. Although now it is more special for us because we got married on Halloween last year, so this year we will go out for a meal and either spend it at home or someones party. Have't decided yet.

I would love to go to Derry/Londonderry for their event, it sounds a lot of fun!

If we stay at home we will probably spent around a fiver buyings sweets for trick or treaters. We have a lot of halloween decorations already. Its one of our favourite times to decorate :)
