Newbie at downloading albums

Options
I want to download an album from the internet (not done it before), and have looked on TuneChecker. When I put the name of the album in the search, the options were listed in two columns, one was for MP3 (which I don't have), and the other was CD incl P&P, but there wasn't an option to just download the album for me to burn onto my own disc. Looking at the Q&As on TuneChecker it says that an MP3 download may not be the same quality as a CD download. Can anyone offer me any advice, please?

MP3 is usually fine for every day use, and sounds good after you've burned it. Only true audiophiles ever claim to notice a difference (although an experiment on The Gadget Show exposed that audiophiles are just fooling themselves half the time).

depending on how old your Cd player(s) are they may not play MP3 files, mine don't. I download (usually from Amazon) put it into my itunes and then burn and click on the audio cd option, works on the oldest cd players.

    What's itunes, please?
  • None of the proper music sites offer songs in the same format as original CD's, it's mostly MP3 or AAC.

If your CD player doesn't play MP3 files, you would have to convert the format before you burned it to disc.

I know downloading is easier and quicker, but you'll probably end up paying around the same price for the album download as you would for the CD.

Itunes is Apples media program for playing music and video. It also accesses the Itunes store where you can download songs, albums, podcasts, etc. It links to IPhones, Ipods, etc to easily transfer your media.

Sorry for being so uneducated about this, but if I wanted to download an album from itunes, what exactly would I have to do, and is it accessible if I don't have an Apple computer?

You don't need an Apple product to use iTunes. But you need to download iTunes unto your machine if you want to purchase music via iTunes. If you don't have an iPod or other Apple product then don't bother.
Try out Amazon & HMV they have reasonable help pages that explain how to download music in MP3 format.
It is likely that your machine already has Windows Media Player installed (other players are available), if so upgrade it to v11 if not already done. Assuming that your machine has a cd writer the WMP can handle burning downloaded music unto cd's.
  • Out of interest, would you tell us what the album is?
