They can do if you need to claim benefits as a single parent. The benefits office/people will ask for information which they pass onto the CSA and it's no good just telling them you don't want the CSA involved, as they can stop the benefits or the claim.

The only reason there for them not to get involved in that case, is if for example, there is a history of violence.

  • So if I am claiming housing benefit and child tax credit and I dont declare that the babies father pays me maintenance, they will pass info over to the CSA?

This has changed it is now up to the PWC whether they pursue child support, child support no longer affects benefits.

The CSA don't get involved unless you phone them. If you get maintenance you still need to declare it to the relevant departments even though it doesn't affect these benefits any longer.

So when I claim child tax credit, will I get less if I declare he is giving me x amount a week?
  • I dont know if I am being completely blonde but if I do receive anything from my babies father, I need to let child tax credits know? But does this affect how much I get? If I do declare he gives me money, will the CSA get involved if its not enough according to them?

Maintenance doesn't need declaring for CTC, it does for HB but again it doesn't affect the amount of HB you get.

Should I have put info about my babies father on the child support form as well? I am sure I dont need to.

If you and the childs father have a private agreement between yourselfs the CSA do not need to know anything, honestly if you can keep things amicable then do it avoid the CSA like the plaque.

Ok, but I must remember that when I make applications for Child Tax Credit and Housing Benefit, although the child maintenance has no affect to the amount, I should declare what I am receiving.
