Sat here crying!

I'm crying for a good reason! my partner who has been out of work for 10 months has just been confirmed for a new job starting on 4th october.

For the last 10 months all i have done is worry about money, the mortgage, the debts, and had to fight the jobcentre every week due to them messing up our claim over and over. I'm the kind of person who overworries as it is and its just been so stressful having to ring up all these companies to tell them why we have no money etc etc.
I found it disgusting actually that while you are earning decent wages everyone wants to be your 'friend', with the bank sending letters telling us theres gold credit cards waiting for us and loans for stupidly high amounts, they even sent us a credit card once we hadn't applied for! ....yet as soon as you struggle and lose your job, recieve benefits suddenly they cut your overdraft without telling you, the letters never come anymore and they start charging you stupid amounts for going overdrawn by even £1.

I have to say i could write an essay about what has happened in these last 10 months, but i just wanted to say thankyou to everyone on this forum which i only found while desperatly trying to cut costs. It also opened my eyes to how much money we were wasting when we were earning before! even on a good wage we were still overdrawn each month and hadn't paid off any or our credit cards, so after reading here constantly and learning how to be a money saver i am never going to let myself do that again!

I aim to pay off the credit cards ASAP and to start saving money, i will ask the bank not to give us an overdraft back (although once they see wages going back in i bet they do it without even asking!)
I am full of hope that with a careful eye still on our money we will be able to get ourselves into a better situation, i don't think i have been debt free since i was 16 but i am determined now!

Before we used to spend without ever looking at our balance:eek: but i feel like a changed woman and i know we can do it!

I just wanted people to know there is light at the end of the tunnel, no matter what tunnel you are in!!
It''s my birthday friday and i can honestly say i feel like this is the best present i have ever got and i have never felt so determined in my life about something, i will be debt free!

Thanks everyone, I know maybe this sounds dramatic but there have been times the last 10 months where I felt like i was on the edge of a breakdown, I had also been drinking too much cheap wine! to try and stop myself constantly worrying and stressing over things, not the best way to handle it i know, but i have been so shocked at how unhelpful people have been (companies i mean not friends/family!) the only helpful and understanding people in this whole mess was our mortgage providers, they were sympathic but i just felt everyone else didn't give a toss and refused to help. Its like if your not earning then in their eyes your worthless to them, no matter that you may have worked your whole life and also paid everything on time and paid your fair share of taxes!
Oh well, I'm just so glad things are looking up and i hope lots of other people have some good luck dust come their way :)
  • Fabulous news, so pleased things looking up for you

(don't worry about the wine) I drink cheap plonk for fun not over worrying. Maybe if I had worried more I would not be in the mess I am in, so worrying has got something going for it......in my opinion anyway

Thankyou for sharing........this is where our strength lies

I don't venture into this section often but your post title caught my eye

I'm pleased to see the tears are of happiness/relief!! :D My OH was made redundant a couple of times during the recession so I know exactly what that feeling of pressure being lifted is like when that new job offer is finally on the table.

Congratulations to your partner and I hope he enjoys your new job, and good luck to you both with your aim to be debt free

    (((hugs)))

Picked DH up from work ( a wasted 28 mile journey today).

He walked in the door and said "Mmmmm" something smells nice. Shepperd's pie and home made biscuits winner12 inspired me. Looked in the BeRo book and found I had all the ingredients needed ? amazing !. Then informed him, he could take my car to work tomorrow . This has always been a no no, due to me having to go shopping for things "I need" !!!

He asked me what was up :rotfl:I replied I am rearranging our lives, he replied for the better it looks like. He is in for another shock after tea, when I pick up the allotment keys and walk round there too.

I took DH to work, then came on here and as you know, never got to Asda for those things I so needed (never missed the trip at all) then of course had to go back for him, so two 7 mile journeys I did not need to to do.

OK need to go check tea

    :)
