I have just had a letter from a credit agency saying I owe £250 due to an old freemans debt. I wasnt aware that I owed anything and Im positive it was over 6 years ago.
How long are they allowed to chase payment for? I thought it was 5 or 6 years and they had to drop it??
Any help would be great, spent ages trying to google it but not coming up with anything.

6 years in England, 5 years in Scottishland
If there has been no communication made, no payments made and no CCJ registered "back in the day" then the debts are barred and you can tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.
They don't just drop it though, until you tell them to they will chase you like a dog."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
Info in this factsheet
Factsheet | Liability for debts and the Limitation Act
If you're sure you've not acknowledged the debt for a period of six years, then send the letter in the factsheet.0
