Gin advice!

I'm just about to make some sloe gin for the winter and need to buy the gin. Doesn't need to be a "branded" one but as all the supermarket own brands seem to be more or less the same price, are any of them better than the others?
Much as I like the odd G&T, a bottle from each of them to test would last for a month of sundays!

To be honest you are not looking for any flavour from the Gin you are using it for the alcohol base.
Any Gin at all would do....cheaper is best.... MSE
When comparing prices make sure you compare like with like.
Some Gin is only 35% abv not 40% abv0 -
Hi
My wife made some sloe gin last year using Tesco Value Gin
It is fantastic, even long time drinkers of the stuff said how nice it was.
Remember not to pick the sloes until after the first frost, otherwise they'll be too hard and won't flavour the gin properly:beer:0 -

Cheap is fine, no point paying way over the odds, the flavour will go under the sloes, anyway.
Some people reckon 37% ABV (cheap gin) isn't as good as 40%, though....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I use Tesco value gin to make my sloe gin and it is fine. I think they've just put the price up though, all my bottles were bought at less than £8 but last week I'm sure it was £8.32.
If you can't wait till first frosts, just pick the ripest berries and stick them in the freezer overnight, it helps split the skins and soften the pulp.0
