There are times when you would not want to use vouchers e.g. to get the £50 spend at Tesco to get the 5p off fuel.
A very good post for the newbies, Seth, but just thought I'd mention that you get the 5p off petrol voucher when you've spent £50 before using any vouchers, not after, i.e. you could have a total of, say £51, give them £5 in vouchers and still get the 5p petrol voucher. Which is nice. :)

Tesco SELF SCAN is the BEST as these scan almost all vouchers. The staff to look after them are busy and have never even checked my voucher use or stopped me using vouchers!

    .

Fantastic! I've never self scanned, but I will certainly try it now! Thanks Seth.:D
  • Don't get too carried away with the self-scanners though, I have happily scanned some vouchers only to have the cashier open the voucher box and void my vouchers. This was due to them being over 10% of my shopping bill. Yes you can make savings but the staff can also see on their main screen what you are upto and if they so wish they can as they did with me void your vouchers.

    Hi Rachel,

I wouldn't worry about it too much but yes you will harden up as you go on.I think we can all say we have had embarassing moments however this is soon forgotten when you have full cupboards. Mine are creaking at the moment :rotfl: But more importantly from somebody like myself (not on a high wage you canafford to buy more decent food for the children. Not junk thrown into no frills tins. That is what it makes it all worth while for me and collecting points for holidays. Had 2 this year thanks to Mr T. and already have 1000 pound worth of deal vouchers for next years hols.

    Regards

A thick skin certainly helps, but if you remember that you are applying a policy the store has adopted as a marketing ploy and to keep customers, you will be fine. They get the money back for coupons.
If my vouchers are turned down in Tesco, which happens very occasionally i just take them back and smile and say ' Never mind..' As really I am always in and out and can use them next time.
Someone mentioned vouchers specific to other stores earlier. Opinions differ on this on the site but the stores can't claim the value of these vouchers back and are not usually supposed to accept them, so they form another category. Not the mailing type ' £5 off a £50 spend' ones, but ones from the Sainsbury magazine and so on.
Anyway you can always hand over your stash- one of each kind you have gathered- and say sweetly ' Do any of these scan?'. Then if they turn you down there is little embarrassment.

So is it the general rule that most/all barcoded vouchers can be used to pay for shopping even if the vouchers are for specific products and your shopping doesn't contain any of these specific items? :)

Can't quite understand how vouchers can be turned down one time but can be used another.

Are all vouchers scanned by the cashier? If so surely if they don't go thru once they won't another time.

Not all stores, and even cashiers, sing from the same hymn sheet and you do sometimes get jobsworthies who decide to read the T&Cs on the voucher and won't let you take them :(

However, if they are scanned and they don't go through, they tend not to go through again.
