Healthy Diet Advice

Hi all
I am calling upon all MSE'rs to offer me some practical advice regards a health diet and eating.
This may sound very silly, but what sort of things should a adult be looking to eat throughout the day and how much of such.
Is 3 main meals better than 1-2 main meals a day with snacks?
Is there any evidence breakfast helps health?
Sorry for sounding very silly, but I really must sort my diet out now!

regardless of what type of diet you do its about calories in and calories out, if you burn more calories than you use you loose weight.
one of the things you want to make sure is that the weight you are loosing is not muscle, you can do this by adding 30 minutes of resistance training 3 times a week. Eating protein also helps reduce the risk of consuming your own muscle. protein is also an appetite suppressant so its a good idea to eat some protein with every meal.
eating smaller meals regularly with some protein can help stop you feeling hungry which can stop you binge eating and hitting the treats. eating 3 meals with a couple of snacks (every 3-4 hours) or splitting your meals up into 5 equal portions is a very good idea.
what to eat is pretty straight forward, lean meats, veg, salad some fruit, some nuts / seeds and make sure there's a source of omega 3 such as salmon a few times a week
i would recommend keeping a food diary so that you know how much you are eating and can fine tune it to keep up a sensible loss of 1-2lbs a week
oh and interesting fact is that the majority of morbidly obese people only eat one meal a day0 -
I assumed you mean a general healthy eating plan, not necessarily for weight loss.

Personally I think 3 meals and 2 snacks is the way to go and although I never ate brekkie when I was younger, I always do now and have always made sure my DD's do too! I just think it makes sense to spread your food intake throughout the active part of the day.0 -
all trial and error, you may find 3 meals are correct for you, you may feel 'grazing' is better.
same with certain foods, i find for healthy eating and what makes me feel balanced is low carb and lots of protein and greens.
too much fruit can bloat me and same with cereals/grains and bread is a no no.0 -
I agree everyone is different. Some people like to graze and have 6 meals a day, others like 3. Bottom line is at the end of day how many calories you've taken in.0
