Quality Street - same size tin, contents down 99g

:beer:My husband decided to take advantage of the £5 for a tin of Quality Street in Tesco at the weekend. Immediately he opened it he felt it was not filled as full as in previous years (he's a bit of an expert when it comes to Quality Street). We had an old tin on the top of the cupboard with the 'ones no one wants to eat' from last year.

The contents (stated on the bottom of the tin) from last year said weight 1068 g, the new tin states contents weigh 969 g - thats down 99g, yet the tins is the same size and the price is the same -£10 being sold for a limited period for half price.

Another case of the deception of selling less food for the same or a greater price.

Although in the case of Quality Street, maybe it will encourage us to eat fewer chocs.

Complain to who? Nestle will file your complaint in the bin and Tesco have nothing to do with pack size.

I wish I had the self control to keep the ones which I didn't like - unfortunately being a greedy piglet I eat them all - every single one - even if that means screwing up my face as I scoff the least favourites. If I had a box of Milk Tray I used to eat the coffee creams first so they were gone and then I could enjoy the rest. I think I have a deep rooted problem -it's called absolute greed!:D

As you say - only a BIT of an expert. A complete expert would have noticed that this happens most years.:D

I've got an empty tin somewhere from about 4 years ago - 1.4kg
  • Have to say i have notice over the years as we keep the tins and biscuit tubs for cakes and DIY odds and ends.

we are going for the heroes as they come in a box.
Have you noticed that they are also using more and more soya in the sweets ?

    Why is it deception?
The weights are clearly stated on the bottoms of the tin so they are not deceiving anyone.
Years ago they used to be over 1kg and they have gone down in weight over the last few years.
Also as with most things, prices have gone up.

If you think it deceiving, dont buy them and then you wont upset yourself.

  • I wasn't complaining when I posted the opening thread, just stating that the tin is the same size, and the contents are less. Most people don't examine the weight or remember from last year (or many years ago) and assume the price has stayed the same when in fact they are getting considerably less for the same price.

(We have solved the problem of 'the ones we don't like'...the green triangles....our 5 year old son has just started loving them...hence they stay on the top of a cupboard.

They are when they do it hoping the customer won't notice.

When they put extra in they have it splashed all over the top in big letters, like "20% EXTRA" or "1200g for the price of 900g".

But when they take some out they don't do that. That's a form of deception.
  • Sadly this is common practice rather than increase prices due to increased raw costs they decrease the size often keeping the wrapper/tin the same.

At this rate we have nothing left to put in the tin or whatever they use
