Made to move from rental?

edited 21 September 2010 at 9:55PM in Bankruptcy & living with it
I am in the early stages of declaring bankruptcy, so much so I haven't made my SOA or started completing the bankruptcy forms etc etc

Basically I have around £43K in unsecured loans and take home around £2,050 per month.

What really worries me is will I be made to move into smaller (and thus cheaper) rental accomodation? I currently rent a 2 bedroom house at £830 a month (signed a fixed 1 year contract 3 months ago).

I'm sure there is plenty more I need to know and I am working my way through this great site. This is something that really worries me though and something I haven't seen mentioned?

I live alone BTW and am in South London - Croydon.

Many thanks

  • Sorry, forgot to say.
I live in Croydon - my last house was £925 per month, so it's pretty good (although to be fair, I am doing lots of DIY on the house).

if you live in an expensive area and you are paying an average rent it shouldn't be a problem

    good luck x

If you have just signed a new lease I am sure that you will have to stay put, they will inform the Landlord that you are BR (ours did) our Landlord said she was not bothered that we were BR and we have been fine. Are you single? if you are not your partner will be paying towards the rent so they will take that into account. Good luck
If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j
  • Thank you, I don't think my landlord will be too worried as I am slowly fixing the house up.....LOL
Painting and decorating, tidying up the garden etc etc it's a great house in a nice area, close to work and private!
I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and see.

We live in a similar area so know the rental price is average, our OR didn't even blink at our rent, which is a smilar size for a two bed house. I think they are very aware of values. Our landlord did not like me going BR but he sais as long as the rent was paid it would be OK. Good Luck, it's not the best thing you'll do in life, but it's not the worst either. I am out the other side now and am really glad I did it.
