Previous mortgage company want money back!!

I've just received a letter from a mortgage company I left over 3yrs ago saying that my account has a shortfall of £715.53 due to a refund overpayment.
The account was settled in April 2007 when I re-mortgaged.
Can they demand this money off me after this amount of time?!
Please can anybody help with some advice?!!!

6 years is generally considered the time they can go back on errors.
They cannot insist on immediate payment. However, they can expect you to agree an interest free period that is reasonable. Typically that is 12-24 months. Before you agree to that though, ask them for a breakdown of the figures to make sure you do owe it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
