Bloomin bloomin typical!!!! Just when you think you have everything sorted this month and have saved a bit of cash to give to the vat man something always happens!! Was just out shopping (at aldi) visited my dad and on the way back the brakes went on my car!! Luckily I was only doing 20 mph as I saw traffic up ahead, applied the brakes and ....nothing!!! eventually something happened and after a squeal of rubber stopped with inches to spare. I was shaking like a leaf and continued the remaining 3 miles home at 15 mph to avoid braking. I am so mad that I will now have to fork out god knows how much to put right! Hubby checked and there is no brake fluid left and when you pump the brakes nothing happens . The man that does my car is really good and isnt expensive but its still probably at least £100 of work I had not budgeted for- and havent really got. good job swearing not allowed on here as his one would definately have been banned!

I know exactly how you feel:mad: Hope it's not too expensive.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Sounds awful, and I know from experience how it leaves you shaking.
But just think, no matter how much it costs, it could have been a lot worse if the car didn't stop in time...and you can't put a price on yourself!0 -
ah sweetie what a shame thats horrendous!! Lucky you're safe though. I know what you mean, just as you feel you're getting somewhere something bites you in the behind!! Keep smiling although it's hard and hopefully it'll be something nice and cheap. Thinking of you.

You were only doing 20mph and had a near miss.. but decided to drive home 3 miles at 15mph with no brakes? Scary stuff.DFW Nerd 0350

I'm glad you're OK, Mrs Baggins, you must have been terrified. There's always something to mess up your budget, isn't there? If it gives you any comfort, my budget this month has been thrown out by my car needing a new cam belt in the same month that I have to pay the charge to my letting agents for renewing my tenancy.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

First off, get someone who knows about cars to just bleed and renew the brake fluid. They will probably do it for 20-30 quid if not less. It's not all that hard to do. The more worrying thing is that you have a leak.
Secondly, if anything ever happens like that with your car again, simply do not drive it. If you had hit anyone they could have claimed on your insurance and sue'd you as you were clearly driving with no brakes!!0 -
Thanks all I am feeling calmer now. Have been teying to phone the man who repairs my cars but no answer yet. hopefully it will not be tooo expnsive!0

Like mention. You just need to buy brake fluid and bleed the brakes. I know it not has easy has that but is 30 mins job by someone who knows how.
Are there any local colleges in your area that do mechical work? They are always looking for cars to show students how to do various jobs. This way its a lot cheaper and your helping someone at the same time.0
