  • Hi Jellyhead,

Thanks for that, yes I was put off by what I'd heard about Atkins, I thought it was an extreme diet and dont really agree with diets as such, just think you cant beat healthy eating.
After looking into it though, I see it makes perfect sense.
(Sorry if you have read it, I don't mean to tell you what you already know).
Basically it points out that our bodies haven't evolved with our diet, and we need to think caveman, they didnt have meat and 2 veg at every meal, they would eat what was in season, and if they made a kill they would eat nothing but meat for days on end, they wouldn't go and dig up potaotes and a cauli to have with it, whats the point?
We use 'sugar' (carbs) first and store fat for use later, trouble is our diets mean we dont ever go into the fat stores so it stays there making us tired and clogging us up.
I think it a good idea to go into fat burning mode - as we are designed to do, every now and again, we not only burn the fat but we use it, have you heard about fish oils being so successful in helping children with learning and behaviour problems? Kids are eating so many carbs they dont burn and use their fat, so need supplements in a form that can be used whilst still storing bad fat.
I am not familiar with the other diets you mention, but it seems they are along the same lines.
The reason I suggested Atkins as a reference is because it explains why we crave chips and other carbs - mine is sugar, cakes and cola yum! and then feel exhausted after.
I want to do the diet as firstly I need to loose the tummy, mainly as it is causing the PCOS to worsen, but more importantly I need to break my sugar and carb addiction, I am also addicted to tea which destabalises blood sugar levels causing more cravings.
Also, I don't excersise as it just wears me out, I didnt know that you needed to do 4 times more excersise with PCOS, that would explain a lot, but Atkins says that whilst in fat burning mode you need to excerise 3 times less to get the same effect ;D he also promises the energy to do it!
Another reason I suggested Atkins is it also gives tables of what foods contain which levels of Carbs, and which are better carbs, as you righly say, some are far better than others.
Do you knowwhy you developed PCOS 4 years ago? can you think of a trigger?
You are so right to be taking the vitamins, bonus with the wrinkles!
My Kinesiologist found the root cause of mine was high homocysteine, basically when we eat protein it converts to homocysteine, then with the use of B vitamins as well as Zinc and magnesium it turns into amino acids that are essential for repair and growth.
With our modern diets and envirnmental insults we dont get enough B's and use up quickly what we do get so we cant convert and so end up with high H levels which is actually toxic, so in turn we need more vits.
It leads to many differnt health problems as well as tiredness and weight gain.
I have been seeing her since January and she said it would be a year before I was better, I went to her for infertility, assuming I would just have to live with the PCOS for ever but she is now dealing with that and the symptoms are decreasing.
I used to be on evening primrose for pre menstral breast pain, but she took me off it as she said she was going to cure the cause, I suffered for a month but that's gone now.
Blimey what a long post! I better shut up now!
    Best of luck to everyone,

    Greenie
    Waddle you do eh?
