Glaucoma

  • OP, don't be too worried until you actually see a consultant. Did you have a routine eye test to pick up the suspected glaucoma? I had this and it was scary waiting until I had a diagnosis but a short delay won't really affect you. I was referred to the hospital as I had high eye pressure and a family history of glaucoma. Luckily I didn't have glaucoma but I do have to be monitored to check my pressure. Initially I used eye drops but now I don't need them and I have regular checks (every 6-9 months) to make sure everything is ok.

Yes, I was given a routine eye test and after a number of tests, was told they needed to write to my GP, which they have done.
My GP called me in the other day, and it would appear now that I am officially a Glaucoma suspect and it looks as though it may well be the on set of Glaucoma.

My pressures have slowly risen over 4 years, so I am now told.
I have used the same opticians for the past 5-6 years and they have recorded all my older pressure readings, which every time they have tested, each time they have risen by 1 IOP.
This alone, I am now advised, appears the on set of Glaucoma and I have now fallen over the NHS guidelines for referral.
