Sending money abroad

I apologise if this is a really novice question, but its not something i have done before.

I need to send some money to a credit card account in Brazil. I know I need to go to a bank to do this, but is one bank better than another for this? I have accounts with Nationwide and Halifax. I also know I will need to pay a tax or fee to do this and this is dependant on the amount. I need to pay 1768.38 Brailian Real. How much would this tax be to send the amount?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, I simply haven't had to do this before.

Have you thought of using paypal (the ebay bank)?
I have been led to believe that it is one of easiest ways to transfer money overseas. You will have to set up an account and make sure the other party is willing to up lift it to their credit card account. It has been very qiuck to transfer money for any transaction I have done, usually for purchases and free to the sender.
