Post bankruptcy UTR number

Anyone heard of a post bankruptcy UTR number for self employed. My husband was discharged from bankruptcy a year ago. He is a self employed bricklayer, he was told he needed a new UTR number (post bankruptcy) to replace the one he had before he went bankrupt. The tax office eventually gave him one, but when he tries to go to the next department at the tax office to verify it they say the UTR number isnt on their file. But it is all within the tax office system, what a farce.
He has been tryong to get the tax office to sort it for over two months, anyone else had this experience.
