I have good credit and a couple of credit cards but all under control an will be debt free in 8 months comfortably. however my partner, who doesnt live with me, and i are considering him moving in. he has terrible credit and one outstanding loan which i am in the process of dealing with as statute barred. i rent at present and will be elidgable to buy my house in 2 1/2 years. i will only need a small mortgage or even a personal loan to buy my house with the deposit i have. so my question is as he has bad credit will it affect my mortgage/loan application with him living at same address as me? some people have said as long as we are not financially connected i.e. no joint bank accounts etc that irt willbe ok whilst others have informed me that the debt will show up at my address and therefore affect my credit rating. Any help pls?

As far as I can gather, as long as you don't go mad and get financially associated with him you'll be fine. This means anything to do with money is keep totally seperate, even the bills as people like British Gas report to the CRAs. Also crud like SKY and BT
You may love the bleeder but keep a very long barge pole bewteen your finances.

Even if he has debts and is registered at your address, it won't affect your credit rating as long as you have no joint bills, bank accounts, credit cards etc etc. Despite rumours to the contrary, addresses are not "blacklisted", only people are! As others said, keep your finances well apart and you should be fine."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

They changed the rules about 20 years ago; prior to that it went on address. Only loads of 18 years busily wrecked their parents' credit ratings so it was changed. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Brill thak you for that. at least that solves one less problem x0

People do still think that it's based on address though. When I moved in, my landlord informed me that as this property was a repossession when he bought it it may affect tennants' credit ratings and to be watchful of such.

Don't worry it will be okay; as long as you keep your finances seperate. Me and OH are exactly the same as you two; he has terrible credit rating from big debts from previous relationship. All the bills here are in my name and all finances are seperateMFW 2025 #50: £1989.73/£600007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00
