If you inform them that they are barred and they are truly barred then send them the barred letter. It's illegal to pursue you for these debts once you've informed them.

This of course stops one lot of shysters but they will simply pass / sell it on to some other company who you can also tell to go suck some fish heads.

    Good Luck.

I've seen dozens and dozens of cases where sending the statute barred letter has ended things.

If it doesn't then you can make some serious complaints to the OFT and trading standards.

I would send the letter and see what happens.

No point going bankrupt if a few firm letters will sort it.

  • Still looking for people's personal experiences in getting debt collection firms to accept that a debt is statute-barred......any advise would be much appreciated.

It's got nothing to do with success or failure, Statute Barred is a legal term and whether the DCA's like it or not, they cannot legally pursue a SB debt. There are letters that you can send if they are still writing to your old address, to prevent them from hassling your family members, especially as you haven't lived there for 8 years. You don't need to go bankrupt because of these old debts!
