utter shame...

yesterday,we went food shopping. took the credit card as we have no money in bank, overdraft maxed.

went to pay,and it said wrong pin.tried again,wrong pin.one more time....wrong pin.card blocked.

so embarrassed!was frog marched to customer services to sort out payment.obviously no funds at all to pay for the £88 shopping.
Hubby and both our children were left standing at customer services with a trolley full of shopping while i tried to get some money from somewhere.

Decided to call my sister to ask her to wire us the money, which she thankfully did.she wired £100 as we had no money for petrol.

needless to say, very embarrassed and very stressed.we really must budget and stick to it and sort ourselves out!

my account with co-op(cashminder) is now open.I get paid friday and when dd's come out i will transfer them over to new account, that has no overdraft and no credit facilities.despite this,we are still in our overdraft by £150 until payday.crap.

just wanted to share with u all!

  • Well done in having the courage to come on here and share your problem. From experience there is usually one thing that happens that finally makes us waken up to the problems we have. Sounds like this is your wake up call. I wish you all the best and hope things work out. Be proud of yourself.
  • Well done for handling it so well, despite feeling as though you've failed at the first hurdle.

Like Markys Mission says, be proud of how you handled this situation and be proud of yourself!

    You can do this!
  • thanks.felt so humiliated.made me realise that we would truly be !!!!!!ed if we did not have the credit card to fall back on...and that to me is not good enough.
i dont want the credit card to fall back on,i want to be able to manage our money month by month without leaving ourselves skint.

Kezzy, I can remember several years ago, I was going to London for the day to see my sister. I popped out first thing to the autobank to get some money out and my card was declined (never used to budget back then, just spent what I wanted & lived in overdraft). I had to go back home & turn out my spare change jar to get enough money to pay for the taxi to the station! I didn't have a credit card then (I was quite bad enough with money without one!) so the first thing I had to do when I got to London was ask my little sister to lend me some money. It does feel really humiliating, doesn't it? To put the tin lid on it.....when I got back home, I saw that my lottery numbers had won me 10 quid.....then realised that I hadn't bought a ticket that week!! In case you are thinking this might have been the LBM.......no such luck, several more years before I got to that and having discovered budgetting, I can honestly say that I will NEVER go back to how I used to be!
