  • How about a xmas survival / treat hamper. We do something similar for the mother in law each year. Basically its stuff that are either nice tasty treats or stuff she can make a meal out of which means she doesn't have to bother doing much shopping between xmas and new year.

It usually has some nice biscuits, some type of savory crisps, some nice M&S store cupboard stuff i.e. soup, jams etc, sometimes some freezable ready meals (M&S) some cheeses (those in wax) and then some other homemade treats that she can cook up (e.g. i make extra lamb koftas for her as she loves them, cheesecake etc)

I know somebody that bought somebody a "posh hamper" for Xmas, thinking it'd be lovely as they'd never ever buy that type of food themselves.... first it got split up and went into a few cupboards, then it worked its way to the back, then it all went in the bin as it was peculiar food they've never had so weren't sure about, didn't like the sound of, or simply had no idea how to use.

Oh this made me really sad, and then mad, they could at least have given it away.

I am currently putting up a few hampers for people who have been homeless and moving into their own place. Our budget is £5 per hamper so its value and basic all the way. Suprising what you an get for a fiver though.
