Marriage and mortgages

I would really appreciate some advice from anyone who knows anything about this I have literally had to put my whole life on hold for my past mistakes!!!

Right from the start - me and my partner got together 4 years ago at the same time I went bankrupt - we got engaged just over a year ago and want to get married. We also are trying to sell his flat - we saw a mortgage advisor a year ago and he told us NOT to get married as it would affect his credit rating. The flat we have is currently for sale but because of the market is going to take a very long time to sell!! We have spent the last year saving a deposit to buy a house (my partners mortgage is interest only and have no equity in the flat so therefore needed a minimum of 10% deposit) so we finally have the money for the deposit and have put it on the market!!

So the situation we are now in is that we want to get married but dont want my credit rating to affect his. We can get a mortgage based soley on his wages and not get me involved (which is really lucky).

My question is if we get married abroad (America) how would the mortgage people know we were married? Would it affect his credit rating? Is there ANY WAY we can get married without my credit rating affecting his??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The mortgage company would know you are married as it is a question on the mortgage application. Lying is not a good idea.
Aside from that, when the mortgage completes the solicitor needs to disclose who will be living in the property and may need to disclose the marital status.
Credit rating will only link together 2 people where there is a financial association, i.e joint accounts.
